They’re Only Babies Once! Schedule Your Newborn Session

Being a newborn photographer is so special to me. Seeing those sweet little babies in their first few days or weeks of life is pure joy, and sharing those moments with new moms and dads is an equally wonderful experience.

I offer two types of newborn photography sessions; Studio and Lifestyle.

Studio Newborn Sessions

If you just love those adorably posed images of newborns with unique backdrops, props, or special outfits like wraps, crocheted bonnets, baskets, or blankets a Studio Newborn Session would be an ideal choice.

Studio Newborn Sessions last between one and two hours and are best scheduled within four to ten days of delivery while baby is still sleepy and easy to pose.

Lifestyle Newborn Sessions

My Lifestyle Newborn Sessions are at your home and include informal images of you and dad interacting with baby. Posed images can also be captured. Lifestyle sessions last between one and two hours and are also best scheduled within four to ten days of delivery.

Scheduling Your Session

Newborn portraits are best created within the first two weeks of delivery. If the baby is healthy and mom is doing well, I actually prefer to photograph within the first seven days. During this first week, your baby is still very sleepy and we can pose baby in all of the adorable poses that my newborn families love.

Unless you are having a scheduled c-section, you obviously won’t know exactly when your baby will be born — that’s OK.

Please call as soon as possible during your pregnancy to let me know your due date and to get on my schedule. With your booking, I do leave time around your due date and remain “on-call” to ensure we can schedule your portraits.

As soon as that baby is born, have someone call to get a firm date on my calendar that all-important first week.

Personalizing Your Session

I have a growing collection of adorable newborn props and outfits including; baskets, blankets, hats, and other props and outfits. We can discuss options when we schedule your session. I also encourage you to personalize your newborn photography session with anything special that brings meaning to you and your new baby.

A few suggestions:

  • Blankets that are special to you. Made by grandma? Embroidered with baby’s name? Matches the nursery? All great options.
  • Fun, personal items that represent a favorite sports team, family heirlooms, or a special hobby.
  • Special outfits, hats or booties you love.
  • Special props, wraps or bows.

Preparing Your Baby

A well-fed baby is a happy sleepy baby! If you live near the studio please feed your baby prior to coming. If you live more than 45 minutes away you may want to wait and feed the baby in our private children’s room. Either way, please plan on bringing extra milk with you. Newborn sessions tend to make babies hungry and you will need to feed them to put them back to sleep.

Make sure you get a good burp in! A baby with gas is not a happy baby and can result in lots of crying.

Don’t worry about baby acne or little scratches. Our expert retouching will either eliminate or drastically minimize these imperfections. If your baby has extremely dry skin, try putting baby lotion on prior to coming to your session and bringing extra with you. This will help the retouching process.

Before leaving for your session be sure to loosen that diaper! This will reduce the diaper marks from their naked little bottoms. Also, do not have tight socks on their feet. Socks leave sock lines at their ankles.

Prints & Photographic Products

Photographic prints and other printed photographic products are not included in your session fee. If you would like to purchase prints, canvases, photo books, or other professionally printed photographic products, please review my Print Product Pricing for details.
